This is the first birthday I have had to acknowledge without my father alive. I am missing Dad terribly. The sadness comes in like waves rolling in and out of the ocean. I have fond memories with my father especially the travelling we always did when we were younger. Dad used to pack the car and we would leave in the early hours of the morning to arrive at our destination by around midday. I remember living in Brisbane and taking trips up north exploring beaches and sugar cane fields. Fond fond memories especially Rainbow Beach with the coloured sand. A major highlight of my childhood.
We left Brisbane when I was finishing year 5. I remember feeling sad but happy for the new adventure. We started driving south and spent a few months living in a caravan park in Wodonga. Mum and Dad were looking for a business to buy. We looked in the Mt Beauty are only to find and purchase a milk bar/ newsagency in a place called Walwa nestled on the Murray River. This is where we spent the rest of our childhood years. I finished school and then spent 9 months traveling with an Aunty and her little children. What an adventure. Memories I will cherish forever.
Dad I miss you and your frequent calls throughout the week. It was tough not seeing you in Melbourne when we were there in the holidays just gone. I miss your wisdom and you asking how everyone in the family were and how you would never except one worded answers, you had to have more info.
I am so happy to have the precious time with you the week before Christmas. The last time we spent time together. We had a lovely lunch and you bought the girls beautiful books they will cherish forever.
Thank you for being the best father you could be. I will cherish my memories forever and pass on memories to the little people who will never know you. May your memory live on forever. Love your 'No 1 daught'. Vicki. xoxo
